How to connect SWEB via Explicit FTP over TLS Encryption (FTPS)

*** To enhance the network security, users are required to connect to the CityU VPN before they connect to the SWEB server by FTPS. The CityU VPN connection guides can be found [HERE].

SWEB no longer supported insecure FTP connection from July 2015, user must set up Explicit FTP over TLS Encryption (FTPS) or use latest FTP client version (e.g., FileZilla 3.10.x or newer) for file transfer with SWEB. Otherwise, you may find a message “534 Policy requires SSL…” and fail to do so.

When using FileZilla (Example 1)

1.      Click the File menu

2.      Click Site Manager

3.      Click New Site and rename it to SWEB (or other name you prefer)

4.      In the General tab, fill out

5.      Click Connect*

When using CyberDuck (Example 2)

1.      Click the Open Connection button

2.      Choose FTP - SSL (Explicit AUTH TLS) in the menu at the top of the window and fill out

3.      Click Connect*

*Note: The first time you connect using FTPS, you will get an "Unknown certificate" pop up. This is an expected behavior. Check the box "Always trust certificate in future sessions." and you will not get this prompt again.
