How to connect SWEB via Explicit FTP over TLS
Encryption (FTPS)
*** To enhance the network security, users are required to connect to the CityU VPN before they connect to the SWEB server by FTPS. The CityU VPN connection guides can be found [HERE].
SWEB no longer supported insecure
FTP connection from July 2015, user must set up Explicit FTP over TLS Encryption (FTPS) or use
latest FTP client version (e.g., FileZilla 3.10.x or newer) for file transfer
with SWEB. Otherwise, you may find a message “534 Policy requires SSL…” and fail
to do so.
When using FileZilla (Example 1)
1.
Click the File menu
2.
Click Site Manager
3.
Click New Site and
rename it to SWEB (or other name you prefer)
4.
In the General tab,
fill out
Host: sweb.cityu.edu.hk
Port: 21
Protocol: FTP - File Transfer Protocol
Encryption: Require explicit FTP over TLS
Logon Type: Normal
User: YourEID (replace YourEID with your SCMLAB EID)
Password:
YourPassword
(replace YourPassword with your SCMLAB password)
5.
Click Connect*
When using
CyberDuck (Example 2)
1.
Click the Open
Connection button
2.
Choose
FTP - SSL (Explicit AUTH TLS) in the menu at
the top of the window and fill out
Server: sweb.cityu.edu.hk
Port: 21
Username: YourEID (replace YourEID with your SCMLAB EID)
Password:
YourPassword (replace YourPassword with your
SCMLAB password)
3.
Click Connect*
*Note: The first
time you connect using FTPS, you will get an "Unknown certificate" pop up. This
is an expected behavior. Check the box "Always trust certificate in future
sessions." and you will not get this prompt again.
